If any of you enjoyed one or more of the movies listed, then I am open to hearing your opinions.  But my consensus remains that nothing beats the original.

Which brings me to my main point:   Colts Play Superbowl in Miami II was bound to disappoint.  The casting was similar, but missing a few key stars.  The wardrobe was mixed up a bit buy switching from white jerseys to blue.  The villain was a fresh opponent.  The set was changed from rainy Sunday to warm evening.  And of course the ending had to change in order to keep audiences in suspense.  Colts fans give this Miami re-do two giant foam thumbs down.

The sixth seeded Ravens will find a well rested and fired up Indianapolis Colts team lead by newly crowned league MVP Peyton Manning. The last time these two teams meet was Nov 22 in Baltimore. That day the Colts came away with their 7th straight win over the Ravens, 17-15. Manning passed for 299 yards and one touchdown but still gave up two interceptions. It is the holiday season and that means a couple of things: Lots of family time, the end of the NFL season and College Bowl season. This year it is hard to get excited about the Bowl season due the fact that there are 34 bowl games. Now, I understand that for the college athletes each and every bowl game is important but as a fan, why would I ever want to watch the New Mexico Bowl between Fresno St and Nevada or the Little Ceasars Bowl between Marshall and Ohio. These bowl games are pointless, I was flipping through the channels on Dec 26 and I just happened to turn on the Marshall and Ohio football game, the stands were about half full. This can not be a good situation for the BCS, the stadium, or the schools to have these games where they are loosing money. Instead of 34 bowl games they should have some sort of playoff. Maybe start the season a week earlier and get it all wrapped up before the athletes finals or start the playoffs after the finals. In the NFL there are two weeks between the Conference Championship game and the Super Bowl, why can’t the FBS do something similar. I think it would increase revenue and be great for college football.

On my mind this week is the Indianapolis Colts, as it seems is the case with many NFL loving Americans. Ticket prices are high. Nachos and a beer at the new stadium require financing. For that kind of money Irsay and the Colts have got to deliver a good product to the fans.

They’ve done it in the past but given how fickle football fans can be the team can’t depend on past success to guarantee fan loyalty. “What have you done for me lately?” is the question on fan’s minds. Sure, the hardcore Colts faithful will always stick by their team. Unfortunately, the faithful don’t pay the bills. Mr. Painted Face makes for good window dressing but he ain’t paying for a suite.

Peyton Manning will retire soon. Obviously he’s the main attraction and a key driver for Indianapolis Colts tickets sales. Replacing him will not be easy. Not only is he a hall-of-fame, stat busting superstar, he’s managed to stay away from controversy. This has made him a great local personality. Whoever comes after him has some enormous shoes to fill.

Speaking of big shoes to fill, new coach Jim Caldwell has his work cut out for him as well. Tony Dungy was extremely popular and a great leader. It would be a challenge for whoever had to follow that act. Clearly, Dungy has a lot of confidence in Caldwell and believes he will be successfull. Fans will give him a chance though I imagine the honeymoon will be short lived.

Expect Bill Polian to be working his butt off during the upcoming draft. The Colts will have to wait until pick 27 in the first round. They won’t get any big stars with that pick, especially not a quarterback for Peyton to start mentoring. Polian and Irsay will find a way to get some solid veterans and some young potential, they always do. However, turning their schemes in to a trip to the post-season may be tough.

Dominic Rhodes did not help the Colts’ cause with all the media attention he’s been getting. Apparently, he got his feelings hurt when he wasn’t picked up by the team for another season. On one hand it’s just business. On the other it isn’t hard to understand why he feels the way he does. Running backs seem to be plentiful, though, so it’s doubtful his bad experience will do much damage to the Colt’s reputation. It’s hard to imagine anyone not wanting to play for them.

Before the end of the Manning era Indy would like to make it to one more Super Bowl. Getting there in the upcoming season is unlikely. An Indianapolis Colts’ season without a post-season would be sad. That dismal prospect may be avoided if they can pick up a few good players. If it doesn’t go well, hopefully fans will give them some slack as they try to build for down the road.

Since some disparaging early, early days in the late 1880s, the Fighting Irish have managed to secure 11 national championships. This is quite a feat for an independent Catholic college carrying a football team. The first was in 1924, under legendary coach Knute Rockne. That year, in the middle of Rockne’s career there, the team managed a 10-0 record and a spectacular win at the Rose Bowl game. Two more namings were added to Rockne’s resume in 1929 and 1930. Both years, Rockne’s team remained undefeated.

Frank Leahy, who coached in the 1940s, led a team picked by the AP wire as national championships in 1943, 1946, 1947, and 1949. Except for one loss in 1943, Leahy also led perfect seasons. The next championship went to the Irish in 1966, as Ara Parseghian led a 9-0 team to gain the selection by the AP and Coaches polls. In 1973, Parseghian proved his mettle with an 11-0 record, culminating in a sweet win at the Sugar Bowl. In 1977, Dan Devine’s team won the Cotton Bowl and eleven other regular season games. Despite their one loss, the team was named champions. In 1988, Lou Holtz, who led the team for more than a decade, marched through the season to win all 12 games, plus masterfully winning at the Fiesta Bowl.

Notre Dame, football’s Gold-mine, has some incredible accolades among the NCAA historical texts. They have the 2nd highest winning percentage, with 73.6%, only two tenths behind Michigan. They have the 3rd most wins behind Michigan and Texas. Of their 120 years of football, they only lost 12 of those seasons; over 100 of them were winning. Although Ohio State also has seven Heisman trophies, they did it with six winners. Notre Dame and USC went 7 trophies for 7 winners. The college also has claim to 48 players and coaches in the College Football Hall of Fame, the most of any NCAA team.

Since 1962, nearly all of the Notre Dame football players have graduated in four years. Only 13 players have left without finishing their degrees. Also notable is the 90% graduation rate of the team’s African American players, third behind Navy and Boston College. Speaking of Navy, the US Naval Academy shares a stat with Notre Dame: namely, most consecutive wins (losses in Navy’s case) over one opponent. That number is 43, a streak that was snapped in 2007. The Irish also had to do something with beginning and ending Oklahoma’s 47 game winning streak. They beat the Sooners in 1953 and again in 1957, bookending the remarkable run with two Irish victories.

The team is something special, for sure, and continues to be a recognizable icon of determined grit in the college football landscape.

I have so much more appreciation for these teams as opposed to the Major League teams.  I think it’s simply because there seems to be an absence of attitude and a more genuine love of the game with these guys.

CONCACAF is a much more efficient acronym to use for the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football.  Remember, America…..soccer is known all over the world as “football”.  Why we continue to insist on being different is beyond me.

With all of the hubbub around last year’s Olympic games I would imagine most people will be wanting to catch a glimpse of Michael Phelps while he’s here.  Also scheduled to swim are Dara Torres, Amanda Beard, Natalie Coughlin, Ian Crocker, Jason Lezak, Ryan Lochte, and Aaron Peirsol, to name a few other Olympians.

That’s right.  Donnie, Joey, Jordan, Jonathan and Danny are coming to the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville on June 28.

Having enjoyed great success in the late 1980s and early 1990s, they disbanded in 1994.  They reunited in 2007, created a new style, released a new album and embarked on a concert tour in 2008.  And we are thrilled that Indianapolis (Noblesville) is one of their stops on said tour.

The album they released in September of last year is called The Block and will more than likely be available for purchase at the concert.

If you were a fan of the Kids 20 years ago you’ll definitely want to come hear them again on Sunday the 28th.  And if you think you’d rather stay home than hear 5 “old guys” try and rock a concert vvenue, then you have a HUGE surprise in store.

This racing facility has a remarkable history, which begins 100 years ago.  It was the first track to use the word ‘Speedway’ and was host to a 7-race motorcycle event on August 14, 1909. The first weekend for automobile races there was August 19-21 of the same year. Sixteen races, enacted by the American Automobile Association, led to 5 fatalities and a final race unfinished. Most of this was due to a terrible road surface. Thanks to track investor Carl Fisher, the speedway was overhauled completely, using 3.2 million paving bricks. This is why IMS is called The Brickyard. Since then, it has been paved over with high-grade asphalt, but a yard of bricks remain at the starting line.

In 1910, the Speedway reopened with 66 automobile races during Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends. Each race, either 100 or 200-mile distance, had its own winner with its own trophy. This seemed a bit overextended and chaotic, so in 1911, the focus was switched to one race per year. The first 500 mile race was held on Memorial Day, May 30, 1911 to 80,000 spectators paying $1 each for admission. Ray Harrou, who averaged nearly 75 miles per hour, won the inaugural race, now referred to as the Indianapolis 500.

The 1910s through the 1920s were an interesting time for the race and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. For instance, the 1916 race was shortened to 300 miles as a solemn reminder of World War I. In September of that year, the IMS hosted the Harvest Classic, a three race event of 20, 50, and 100-mile distances. One racer won all three races. As the US was now involved in the great war, racing was halted in 1917-1918 and the track became a center for military vehicle repairs. As racing returned, the speed of the vehicles had dramatically increased. The 1925 race, for instance, had an average track speed of 100 miles per hour.

The 30s and 40s were a hectic, nearly tragic time for the Speedway. During the Great Depression, the winnings for the race dropped dramatically. In addition, the rules were changed to encourage a wider range of automobile manufacturers to participate. But as increased cars were racing at increased speeds, the Brickyard became a treacherous track. So, another paving commenced, replacing the bricks in parts of the track with tarmac. This was mostly in response to 15 deaths in 4 years. In 1941, half of the garage area burned before the race. And, since the US was involved in World War II, the 1942 race was canceled. Later that year, the US government banned auto racing to conserve fuel, leaving the Indianapolis Motor Speedway an abandoned wreck. In 1946, in lieu of becoming a housing development, the track was sold to Tony Hulman, who kept it open as a public racing venue. Hastily, the track was repaired in time for the race that year.

The Speedway has continued to grow to this day.  It is now home to the Red Bull Indianapolis GP Motorcycle race being held August 30.  Get your MotoGP tickets today before they sell out.

The Oscar and Grammy winning artist is on tour this summer with the best hip hop show anyone could possibly muster.  He’ll be performing at the Murat Theatre on July 16 at 8:00pm.

The next race in the series is the Toyota/Savemart 350 at the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA on June 21.

NExt up is the Lenox Industrial Tools 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH on June 28.

Two other races leading up to the Allstate 400 at the Indianapolis Brickyard on July 26 are the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway on July 4  and the Lifelock.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway on July 11.

Allstate 400 tickets are still available, but you’ll need to get them soon, as Indianapolis is a sure sellout every year.  The Speedway is centrally located in the nation, so fans from all over the country can easily descend on the Circle City for one of the most exciting races in NASCAR.

These guys rocketed to stardom back in the 80’s as one of those fresh boy bands that began popping up from coast to coast.  Now full-fledged adults with families of their own, The New Kids have recorded more new songs, revamped their sound, and have taken their act out on the road.

June 28 at 7:30pm The New Kids On The Block will be lighting up the stage at the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville.  Tickets are selling fast and there are only a few seats left at CircleCityTickets.com

If you don’t yet have your New Kids On The Block tickets you can find seats in the VIP area or the lawn, but you’ll have to act quickly.  There are only a few seats left in each section, and you’ll want to sit as close to the stage as possible to get a good look at how much hotter these teen hotties have become as they’ve matured.

The Muny is located in the Forest Park area of St. Louis, about 2.5 miles west of the mighty Mississippi River.  This is only 230 miles from Indianapolis, 260 miles from Chicago, and 240 miles from Memphis.

The theatre has tickets available for The Muny’ s 2009 Summer Season, which includes fabulous fun, dynamic dancing, and stupendous song with the Broadway smash hit 42nd Street.

If St. Louis is not in your plans for a summer theatre experience, how about Atlanta?  The Fabulous Fox Theatre will be presenting 42nd Street from July 28 through August 2.

The Wolf Trap at the Filene Center in Vienna, VA will also be presenting 42nd Street July 17, 18, and 19.

If you are a fan of incredible dancing in musical theatre, I highly suggest you make your way to one of these theatres this summer for a truly wonderful experience.

This year’s All Star Game is being held July 14, 2009 at 7:00pm at Busch Stadium in beautiful St. Louis, MO. and promises to be everything baseball fans have come to expect: fast pitches, power hits, and fantastic plays.

I would highly suggest planning at least an extra day to do some sight seeing.  The St. Louis Botanical Gardens are truly a sight to behold.  A relaxing stroll through the gardens is the perfect compliment to a rousing game of baseball.

Already a clear favorite of theatre-goers in and visiting New York, “Billy Elliot” is certain to increase its popularity now that it has these Tony’s under its belt.

Sold-out houses are not at all uncommon on or off Broadway.  And the best way to ensure you have a seat is to purchase your tickets ahead of time.
