With so many teams gearing up to compete for the title, this March Madness may be the maddest yet!  So be loud and cheer for your hometown Hoosiers, Bulldogs, and Irish as they all aim for the Final Four in Atlanta!

They regained some dignity though by beating top-10 ranked Ohio State on February 10 thus solidifying their top spot in the rankings. This win was a big deal as it was on the road and against a top-ranked team. Tonight as they play Nebraska many eyes will be watching the team to confirm they are indeed deserving of the No. 1 spot although Hoosiers fans have known they have been the best all along.

A stingy defense, but inconsistent offensive has been the story of the season for the Indiana Pacers. Although, head coach Frank Vogel believes that when the offense catches up with the defense they’ll be a tough team to beat. In addition, the Pacers recently signed head coach Frank Vogel to a contract extension. Vogel is in his third year as head coach for the Pacers and he has led the Pacers to a Central Division best 23-15 record.

The Hoosiers (15-1, 3-0) have now won six straight overall, 18 in a row at Assembly Hall and beat a Top 15 opponent for the fifth time in 13 months. Indiana snapped Minnesota’s 11 game winning streak and both of the Gophers’ two losses have come to number 5 ranked teams (Indiana and Duke).  The next game for the Hoosiers is against No.15 Wisconsin, where they lost their last meeting 71-79.

November 16- Dallas Mavericks

From a basketball standpoint, this game would be more exciting if  the Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki were playing. He’s out for six weeks with a knee injury which should make things easier for the home team. However, I  want  to see Mavs game on the off chance I might meet their owner, Mark Cuban. While some may not like his borderline obnoxious behavior, I enjoy it. Besides, any billionaire who shills for Sketchers can’t be all bad.

November 21-New Orleans Hornets

As a native of New Orleans, I am excited about the possibility of the Hornets not being cellar dwellers this year. Last year’s miserable campaign helped them land the number one pick in the draft where they selected Anthony Davis. I know two things about Davis: He is extremely talented and he proudly sports a uni-brow. Hopefully his skills allow me to look past the fact that he knowingly leaves the house with facial hair only a mother or a groupie could love.

November 23- San Antonio Spurs

The Pacers get to play two games in three days with Thanksgiving sandwiched in between. No worries. The second game is against the Spurs, only one of the most talented teams in the league with a hall of a fame coach, power forward, and a host of all-stars. It should be a walk in the park. Thanks a lot Commissioner Stern.

Indiana Fever’s Tamika Catchings is one of those 12.  Tamika has been on the Fever for 10 seasons now, and has been something special for this Indiana team.  She is a 7-time All-star, 4-time defensive player of the year, WNBA MVP, and has been named as one of the best 15 players ever in the WNBA as of 2011.  She is also a 2-time gold medalist with the USA team in 2004 and 2008 and she hopes to make it a trifecta this year in London.

The Fever as a team are 10-7 after the break which is 2nd in the Eastern Conference but only went 3-3 in their last 6 games.  The Fever are hoping the break gives them a chance to regroup as a team with 17 games left to go.  Catchings will need to come back and be a huge leader for this team again following the Olympics and hopefully she won’t wear herself down towards the end of the season because of it.  The Fever have been a contender in the WNBA for years and this year when Catchings and the Fever return to action, they look to push even further.

That’s right.  Donnie, Joey, Jordan, Jonathan and Danny are coming to the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville on June 28.

Having enjoyed great success in the late 1980s and early 1990s, they disbanded in 1994.  They reunited in 2007, created a new style, released a new album and embarked on a concert tour in 2008.  And we are thrilled that Indianapolis (Noblesville) is one of their stops on said tour.

The album they released in September of last year is called The Block and will more than likely be available for purchase at the concert.

The venue first came to life in 1909 as a gravel track kept in place with tar. The first major race event occurred in August of that year, a series of motorcycle races followed shortly by an automobile race sanctioned by the American Automobile Association. Due to poor track conditions the surface was replaced in 1910 with over 3 million bricks and the first 500-mile race took place in 1911. The annual Memorial Day weekend race has been held every year since 1911 with the exception of two years during World War I and four years during World War II.

Perhaps the greatest turning point in the Indianapolis Motor Speedways history took place at the end of 1944. Largely abandoned during the war, IMS fell into a state of general disrepair. A former Indianapolis 500 winner, on site to test tires for Firestone on behalf of the US Government, found the conditions deplorable and working with other fans of the race found a new owner in Indiana businessman Tony Hulman. Under Hulman’s ownership the facility was restored to its former glory, the 500-mile race resumed in 1946, and the modern era of the track started.

Tony Hulman’s grandson, Tony George, continued in the footsteps of Hulman when he became president of the facility in 1989 and introduced the NASCAR race, FI race, and motorcycle events to the track. Widely questioned for altering what had become the home to just one race a year, the Indianapolis 500, George’s decisions have proven to be good to the facility and under George’s oversight the facilities have continued to expand and evolve.

Not just a venue for racing, The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is also home to a world-class 18-hole golf course and the Speedway Hall of Fame Museum making it a tourist destination for race fans and others alike. The golf course has been home to many tournaments and the museum is a pantheon of racing legend and history. Visitors to the museum can also, at certain times of the year, take a trip around the famous 2.5 mile track via tour bus and walk the grounds.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has a direct impact on the town in which it is located: Speedway, Indiana. Incorporated in 1926, Speedway is an enclave, or separate town, within Indianapolis and sees its population of less than 15,000 expand to more than 300,000 persons on race day events. Speedway was conceived as a city of the future and was intentionally designed for automobiles during its planning stages. As the Mecca of open-wheel racing, Speedway is proud to be associated with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and serves as a wonderful guest to race fans throughout the year.

For the diehard basketball fan this weekend is a “must see”.  That being said, now is the time to get your plans made.
